After nine years of dedicated service to our school community as Deputy Principal and Principal, Julie Porteous will retire at the end of this term. Julie’s contribution to public education over her 41-year career is nothing short of remarkable. She has made a lasting impact on countless families throughout her career.

Many of you will remember Julie being there for you and your family when your child first started at Unley Primary School. During this important time, I know that Julie would have greeted your child with warmth and care; got to know their name and personality very quickly; and engaged them in one of the many carefully curated play opportunities for which Julie is well-known and loved. I have no doubt that you will have special memories of this time that speak to Julie’s kindness, compassion, and her dedication to early childhood education.

Julie is relentless in her commitment to putting children first and ensuring the wellbeing and success of every child. Throughout her career, Julie has championed inclusion, and her work has been characterised by a strong sense of care and empathy. Julie always advocates for children: their right to play, grow and learn in their own unique way, and to be well-understood and supported at school.

Julie is a remarkable leader and the Unley Primary School community will miss her dearly when she retires. I know that many of you will look forward to recognising Julie’s service to our school community and education more broadly.

On behalf of the students and staff at UPS, I invite you to join us for a special assembly on Wednesday 10 April at 10.15am to help celebrate Julie’s contribution and wish her well for the next chapter. Please see the attached invitation for further details.

This invitation extends to past and present UPS families, and to Julie’s colleagues. You are welcome to share these details with others who may wish to help celebrate Julie’s retirement.
