This term in music the Year 1 students have been learning the song ‘Rain Is Falling Down’. They first learnt the song as a speech rhyme then learnt to sing the melody. They played the rhythm of the song on their bodies and on percussion instruments such as claves, triangles, and drums. They read the song using dot notation and then learnt how to play the song on boom whackers, chime bars, bells and xylophones.

The Year 2 students have had fun this term learning the old-fashioned speech rhyme ‘Jack be nimble, Jack be quick, Jack jump over the candle stick’. They have explored speech, different voices, dynamics, and tempo, played the rhythm on percussion instruments and improvised their own melodies to the rhythm on chime bars, xylophones, bells, metallophones, and the piano. It was great to hear their improvised melodies.
