Last Monday, the UPS Athletics team hit the track (and field!) at Santos Stadium to compete in the Adelaide South East District SAPSASA Athletics Carnival. The team, comprising 42 year 4-7 students, have been training earnestly in the lead up to the big day, and our impressive array of running, jumping and throwing was aptly rewarded on the day.

Of the students who attended, 20 came away with a first, second or third ribbon, while our team finished 2nd overall in the ‘small schools’ category. Some notable achievements include William Jarvis in year 6 who finished 1st in long jump, the 800m final and the relay, while also collecting a 2nd place for the 100m race. Isaac Giro, year 5, also received a first place ribbon for his achievements in shot put, and Joseph Hewson, year 7, had a comfortable win in his 800m race. Isaac, Will and Joseph will now be invited to compete in the state championships.

As usual, the day could not run smoothly without assistance from parent volunteers. A huge thank you to Simone Meyer for acting as a chaperone for the day, and to Lucy Appleton who worked tirelessly to manage and support the boys shot put event for the entire carnival.

We would also like to thank Morgan Knight and Di Murray for their dedication and generosity in giving up their time to coach, organise and support all of our athletes – it is much appreciated!
