At the end of last term, students from room 21 and any year 5s who wished to participate in the Royal Adelaide Art competition gathered together. Firstly we discussed what categories we could be in and made choices about which category we would enter. We used laptops to get ideas and inspire us. Paula explained and demonstrated how to use different art mediums. During the holidays, our task was to have a clear idea about what we wanted to do.

At the start of term 3, we chose our categories and drew a charcoal draft of our pictures. In the next few weeks we met with Paula in groups at lunch and completed our masterpieces. A fortnight ago we met as a whole group and attached our Show entries, and Paula submitted them to the Show. We had 38 entries in total and 13 were awarded certificates of merit, which is a fantastic outcome. Even if you didn’t receive a certificate, we feel that we have benefited as students by planning, using our time wisely and working under pressure. We learnt a lot from this experience, including using different mediums and creating a personal work of art worthy of shinning like a star. We are grateful that we were given this opportunity.
