There’s a lot to love about trees

The City of Unley is aiming to increase tree canopy cover in our Council Area to 31% by 2045. This target recognises the many benefits of trees for urban cooling, character, community health and wellbeing, biodiversity and the liveability of our suburbs.

Council has an active tree planting program on public land, however 80% of land in the City of Unley is privately owned, and data shows that the number of trees on private land is declining.

To achieve the Council-wide 31% target, we need your help to reverse this trend. We want to learn if there’s anything stopping you from increasing tree cover in your gardens and outdoor spaces, why you may have removed trees previously and what could assist you in planting new or growing your existing trees.

Tell us how we can work together to build greener neighbourhoods!

You can do this by completing this survey or by suggesting ways that Council can support property owners’ efforts to increase tree canopy in their gardens and outdoor spaces via this ideas board.

If you are part of a local school community in the City of Unley, please let us know which school community you’re a part of when you submit your survey as the school with the highest number of surveys submitted will win a $100 tree voucher, native plant pack or edible plant pack.

Consultation closes Thursday 7th September 2023.
