The Year One students are exploring counting and quantity in their maths lessons in Term One. Students are:
  • improving their number sense and counting fluency through a range of games
  • exploring partitioning of numbers to 20 in a variety of ways
  • developing their counting skills to and from 120 from any starting point
  • investigating methods to count large collections of objects
  • participiating in daily Number Chats
Students access hands on manipulatives to explore number concepts and use number charts, number lines and templates to support their understanding. They continue to expand their range of recording strategies to include cherry model (part-part whole), bar model, sentence stems and number sentences.
