The Room 6 students have been exploring ‘Food from the Earth’ in their guided inquiry lessons this term. Our big idea was to develop understanding of how plants are grown, processed and prepared for healthy eating. We visited Little Sprouts at the Botanic Gardens to plant seeds, explore the edible garden through smell and taste, and learn about the importance of insects in our gardens. At school, we have created artworks of root vegetables, mapped the ‘farm to table’ cycle of potatoes, eggs and wheat, sorted natural and processed foods and shared posters we created at home about a range of natural foods.
