Science News – This term students have been investigating ‘Physical science and Energy systems’ which are concerned with understanding the nature of forces and motion, and matter and energy. The two key concepts are that: forces affect the behaviour of objects; and that energy can be transferred and transformed from one form to another. Through this term, students have explored how an object’s motion (direction, speed and acceleration) is influenced by a range of contact and non-contact forces such as friction, magnetism, gravity and electrostatic forces. Forces are at work in everything we do – we push to open doors, and pull to tie our shoes. Gravity pulls on things toward the Earth. Forces act in the air and water, and on the ground.

National Science Week was part of this term, which is an annual celebration of science in Australia. Unley Primary School students were fortunate to have Enrico Palermo, Head of Australian Space Agency speak to them at assembly and answer questions regarding all things in the Space industry.

With the school holidays approaching; let’s remember our young Einstein’s and scientists among us get a real sense of adventure as they explore the world around them through science activities.

It is very easy to find science experiments online and through looking in books available in libraries. Therefore, no excuse to be bored over the holidays – “get into science”.
