In Week 4, Room 2 visited the Forktree Project in Carrickalinga

The Forktree Project is run by Liz and Tim Jarvis, parents of Jack in our class, who are very passionate about our environment, climate change, biodiversity and sharing their story with young people.

During the day we took part in a number of activities that all make a vital contribution to the rewilding work at Forktree and therefore play in an important part in the fight against climate change and biodiversity loss.

The activities included;

  • Rubble pile and seed orchard: cleaning, sorting and stacking reusable whole bricks; collecting rubble and broken bricks from the seed orchard area to be reused as wall fill or track aggregate
  • Nursery: pricking out seedlings and planting in their own pots and a plant identification/biodiversity activity
  • Planting area: weeding, digging holes and planting saplings

It was a day full of real hands-on work, tiring but fun – and, most importantly, meaningful and purposeful. We strongly encourage all families to check out the website and even head down to Forktree for one of the volunteering days. We can all make a difference!

Thank you Tim, Liz and Jack for having us and for this wonderful learning experience.
