Last week, the UPS Athletics team hit the track (and field!) at Santos Stadium to compete in the Adelaide South East District SAPSASA Athletics Carnival. The team, comprising 52 year 4-7 students, have been training earnestly in the lead up to the big day, and our impressive array of running, jumping and throwing was aptly rewarded on the day.

Of the students who attended, 20 came away with a first, second or third ribbon, while our team finished 4th overall in the ‘large schools’ category. Some notable achievements include Jack J in year 4 who finished 1st in long jump, discus and the relay, while also collecting 2nd place for the 100m sprint. Isaac G, year 6, defended his 2020 first place achievement in shot put. Summer S, year 7, and India R-T, year 6, had a clean sweep in the 12 and 13 yr old discus, earning themselves two first places, while Mia W and Harrison R, both year 5, proved they had spring in their steps at the high jump station. Mia and Harrison were awarded first places for their age groups. Our first place recipients will head to the state carnival next week, and we wish them the best of luck!

As usual, the day could not run smoothly without assistance from parent volunteers. A huge thank you to Suzanne, Liz and Margie for acting as a chaperones for the day, and to Lucy who worked tirelessly to manage and support the boys shot put event for the entire carnival.
