Improving our playspaces here at Unley PS has for many years been a driving mission for our students, Governing Council and our Facilities Committee.

In 2019 we underwent a safety audit of all of our playgrounds. Consequently we are currently undergoing a maintenance program to ensure our playgrounds are safe and sound. In 2019 our Community and Fundraising Committee raised funds through many great events, targeting the improvement of our playgrounds. The area we are looking at re-developing, the most tired of our playgrounds, is the space between the music room and the adjacent Vines building, previously called the “big kid’s playground”.

We have met with a couple of playground designers recently and last week a group of students met to provide feedback about their ideal playground. Year 4 student, Xavier, submitted some alternate designs the following day, displaying impressive creativity and, following conversations with the principal, a growing appreciation of budgeting imperatives.

We will look forward to sharing further plans with you as they take shape in the weeks to come.
