When it comes to reading and supporting children’s literacy development, parents rightly ask a myriad of questions. We know children benefit when families and teachers collaborate to share information and seek answers to these questions. This information session aims to help parents understand what is happening in today’s classrooms when it comes to developing children’s reading abilities. School staff will share current, effective teaching practices in the area of reading and why they are important. Tips for home reading and strategies parents can use to help their child’s literacy learning will be discussed.

This session will have a particular focus on students who are learning to read and developing independence as readers. It is suitable for parents of students in all year levels, particularly those who are learning to read or who struggle with reading.
