At the start of the year, eight keen and competent Year 7 students started our journey of leadership. The SRC executive team, made up of Inez, Zach, Eshal, Grace, Tamara, Olive, Oscar and Lara, worked with the SRC to initiate whole school projects and fundraisers throughout 2019.

Earlier in the year, students of Unley Primary School took a stand against bullying and violence through the SRC led ‘National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence’. Each student wrote a pledge on an orange piece of paper to symbolise the harmonious community we hope for at UPS. The pledges were heartfelt, with people promising to never promote, partake in or ignore bullying. Everyone promised to take it seriously and to be an upstander.

A major fundraiser the SRC thoroughly enjoyed this year was Odd Shoes Day, raising money for those affected by cancer. Seeing everyone come to school in mismatched shoes was quite unusual, but lots of fun as well.

A highlight for us as an SRC has been the opportunity to meet with the school Governing Council throughout the year. We have updated the council on our work and shared the perspective of students with the parents in this group. We would like to thank the Governing Council for inviting us to talk with them.

Leading the SRC has built a lot of confidence and resilience in members of the executive team. Not only have we developed as young leaders, but we’ve also learnt how to collaborate with each other with great ease, and this has complemented us throughout our work in classrooms. SRC has been an incredible opportunity for everyone to excel in different ways, whether it was through developing patience, wisdom or confidence. We would like to extend our thanks to all the class SRC members who have participated in fortnightly SRC meetings and shared the voice of the students of Unley Primary. Well done on a highly successful year!
