The Unley Primary School SRC is excited to continue our sister school project with the Dalousu Village School in the Solomon Islands. The SRC has been working with members of the Unley Rotary Club over the last 3 years to support the village.

Through our partnership with Unley Rotary, we have connected with people who are directly involved in humanitarian work in the Solomon Islands. We have learned that the country is ranked as having one of the highest rates of poverty in the world.

In previous years Unley Primary raised funds to go towards sending students to the local school, and this was a huge success. We also raised funds for solar power power and rice supplies for the members of the village.

Earlier this term, we met with the Rotary Club to discuss how we could make a difference to the lives of the people in Dalousu Village. We wanted to do something to benefit both the children who attend the school as well as the other members of the village.

We learned from the members of the Rotary Club that the members of the Dalousu Village are in need of vital medication to combat malaria along with infrastructure for clean drinking water.

Last year we set a target of $2000 to support our sister school, and it would be fantastic if we could reach this goal again this year. To help us reach our fundraising goal, Next Wednesday, the 7th of December, we will be hosting a Crazy Hair Day where students can rock a crazy hairstyle, hat or wig. We are inviting everyone to make a donation to this project. A small amount of $3 – $5 per UPS student will help us reach our target. Donations can be made via the Qkr app or brought to school on the day of Crazy Hair Day.
