Last Wednesday, July the 27th, our class went to the Maritime Museum in Port Adelaide. It was a half hour bus ride to get there. We went with Mrs Bullen’s class and Mrs Marcucci’s class.

When we got there, we had our recess and got ready to go in. We went in, and we sat down and listened to a tall man called Bruno who told us about the hulk and its cargo. Later, we went on the ship and explored. We found out that they had no toilets on board! We also found out that where the crew and captain slept was a very tight space. Later, we went to the top floor. We went off in our groups and explored. We saw lots of amazing features, antiques, and artefacts.

We stopped for lunch, and then we went to the basement. When we entered the basement, we explored re-creations of a ship’s first class, second class and third class. There were old, dirty beds, and there were also uncomfortable bunk beds.

After, we had a lesson, and we learned about the connection that Australia’s Indigenous People had with the land for thousands of years before first contact with different groups of people like the Makassans, the Dutch and the British. We also found out more information about the First Fleet and the arrival of convicts in Australia.

We had such a great day learning and exploring, and we are so thankful for the parents who could come along on our trip with us.
