Unley Primary School teaches young people about keeping themselves safe and respectful relationships. This is part of the Australian Curriculum and South Australia’s Keeping Safe: Child Protection Curriculum. This curriculum is taught by teachers who have done a full-day training course. It is a world-class, evidence-based program that is used by other Australian and international schools.

The Keeping Safe: Child Protection Curriculum (KS:CPC) teaches children to:

  • recognise abuse and tell a trusted adult about it
  • understand what is appropriate and inappropriate touching
  • understand ways of keeping themselves safe.

The KS:CPC has recently been updated to strengthen topics around consent and online safety from age 3 to year 12 at age and developmentally appropriate levels.

The Australian Curriculum is being updated to increase information about consent and respectful relationships. This will be released in 2022.

You may choose to talk to your child about consent and respectful relationships to help them make informed choices and keep themselves and others safe. The education department has information online to support you. Visit www.education.sa.gov.au/consent.

If you’d like to learn more about what we teach at school, we invite you to get in touch with your child’s class teacher or a member of our leadership team.
