A wonderful day was had by all on Sports Day.

It was a very different day, with the junior and upper primary classes separating for the events and coming together at the end for the presentation of the Sports Day trophy.

It was a hot day, but children and staff were able to find shade for most events.

The junior primary children participated in fun tabloid events and sprint races.

It was clear children had practised many of the activities as they showed excellent ball, throwing and coordination skills. The water relay was a nice opportunity to get a bit wet.

Some very clever Year 2 children were trained by the Year 7 house captains to lead the health hustle for the junior primary students at the beginning of the day as a warm up, and it was great that some parents could view this through the Zoom meeting.

All the children enjoyed a fruit break throughout the day with delicious fresh fruit kindly donated by Tony and Mark’s, who will be opening a new store at Unley Shopping Centre either just before or after Christmas.

Upper primary classes walked to Unley Oval and participated in events like the water relay, hurdles and sack races. Children were encouraging their classmates and gaining points for their teams when they placed.

The house captains did an amazing job both at the upper primary event and during the lead up to sports day, teaching all the children in their team the house chants and health hustle.

At the end of the day, we all gathered in the Sport Arts Centre for a whole school health hustle and house chants that almost lifted the roof. We then had the presentation of the trophy by our Governing Council Chairperson, Amanda Cech, with Rugby excited to finish in first place. Cremorne and Wattle were very good sports, congratulating Rugby on their close win.

Sports Day is a very important event for our school and there is a lot planning, practising and preparation that goes into ensuring the day runs smoothly. A big thankyou goes to the Sports Day Committee and all the educators and leadership team who put in a huge effort to make the day a great success!

Finally, we congratulate our house captains for their stellar leadership. Many thanks to Ayushi, George, Sienna, Ricky, Meili and Jack. We will leave the final word to them:

On behalf of the students at UPS, we would like to say well done to everyone involved in a sports day for the record books! It was a day of passion, with everyone pushing themselves to the limit and displaying fantastic spirit. We’re happy with the outcome.
