Our fundraiser in Term 3 this year was about supporting the children of Dalousu Village in the Solomon Islands. In the Dalousu Village many children can’t afford to go to school. It costs approximately $100 to send one child to school for a year. The Unley Rotary Club visited the UPS SRC and told us about the humanitarian work they are doing in the area, asking us to partner with the club to help make a difference in the lives of others. We recognised how fortunate we are to live in a great city with access to clean water and fresh produce, so it was an easy decision to say yes.

Our goal was to raise $2000 to sponsor 20 children to go to school. But we ended up raising $3,057.20! That’s $1,057.20 more than expected! We also had the idea of donating stationery like pens and coloured pencils to the children who can go to school. A box was put in the front office and within 2 days it was full to overflowing!

The SRC would like to say a big thankyou to everyone who donated money and stationery to this great cause. We have heard that all the children in the Dolousu Village are looking forward to the arrival of their goodies.

We have given the money to the Unley Rotary Club and, along with the stationery, the money will be handed over and gratefully appreciated by the community in the village of Dolousu. In this photo you can see Ben, Matthew, William and Josh who had the pleasure of presenting the cheque to the Unley rotarians at their dinner meeting last Tuesday evening. This was a special moment and a great experience.

Sincerely,

The SRC executive team
