This term classes have been busily completing their Premier’s Reading Challenge. Recording sheets are due to the library by September 4th and certificates and medals will be presented in Term 4 some time in November. We have been supporting children throughout the year to read and record for this challenge. If you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask in the Library or class teachers.

Last week students brainstormed the many things we could buy with Footy Pie Day money. There were common requests by students to improve the book collection, the physical space and the lunchtime resources and activities. I have already put in some orders and purchased books, magazines, board games and Lego that students requested. Items purchased are shared with students during lesson times and identified by a small Footy Pie Day sticker. Another BIG thank you to The Community and Fundraising members who helped and supported this event and the community for getting behind the day.

One fantastic idea put forward by students was they wanted lots of materials for writing and book making, particularly at lunch times. This week we kicked off book making and there has been lots of fantastic imaginative books made. Including song books, flap books, information books, joke books, puzzle books, magazines, comics and stories about a wide range of things.

Book Week has officially been moved from August to Term 4. We are still finalising the details of the week and with changing rules around Covid-19 we will need to remain flexible. Due to swimming for R – 5 classes across weeks 1 and 2 next term we have scheduled Book Week at UPS for October 26th – October 30th. The theme this year is ‘CURIOUS CREATURES, CURIOUS MINDS’.
