The Year 6 and 7 students from Room 4 recently read a book called The Black Book of Colours by Menena Cottin. It’s a book about a boy who is blind and it explains how he sees the colours using his other senses. We were inspired by this incredibly moving book to write our own poems around our favourite colours. We wrote using all of our senses, which we’ve been learning about in writing this term, except for sight. Enjoy reading our poems.

Cyan

Cyan tastes like the stretchy bubblegum, covering my mouth.

It smells like ink freshly laid down on the page.

Cyan is the sound of a gentle, calm breeze

It feels warm and comforting as it envelopes you.

Cyan feels like an X-ray, piercing me and looking deep inside me.

Cyan is the colour of loving people and gives off a calming sensation that covers everyone.

Blue

Blue sounds like the waves crashing at the shore as I sit in the soft sand.

It smells like fresh bluebells from my backyard, a short-lived getaway.

Blue tastes like blueberries, sour, yet so full of life.

Blue feels like those waves, lapping over and over, like mellow heartbeats.

Blue is that calmness, emanating from your heart, soothing your mind and soul

Green

Green smells like a fresh oak tree

It sounds like leaves on a tall gum tree

Green tastes like the surprise when you bite into a sour lime

It feels as soft as moss growing in a magical garden

Green is happiness helping you get through the hard times
