For much of Term 1, students from Rooms 18,19 and 22 participated each Friday in an outstanding bike education program. This program aimed to teach students to ride confidently, safely and independently on the road.

During the first few lessons, Kate, Mandy and Leilani taught us skills, so that we would be prepared to ride on the road properly. Before every lesson everybody did a bike check to make sure our bikes were suitable for riding. We checked the air in the tyres, the chain on the side, the brakes, our helmet, our laces and we did a drop test.

After we checked everything, we got split into groups of 6 or 7. Some of us went with Mandy, some of us went with Kate and some went with Leilani. The lesson before we went on the road, we did a small layout of what we should do on the road and footpath. We used chalk and cones to make it look like the street.

Over the final three weeks, lessons were conducted on the road. We had to wear bright green vests for riding on the road. Like the other lessons, we got put into groups. On the road, we rode in lines behind our group teachers.

On our last lesson, we stopped at the park for a play. The best part about Bike Ed was that people that had never ridden a bike before became confident bike riders. We would like to thank our teachers and the Bike Ed crew for helping us with our bike riding skills.
