Writing can be a powerful tool to help children express themselves during challenging times. The Year 1 children in Room 6 wrote a letter to Barley, a dog that was in the middle of a heavy rain. We talked about how Barley might be feeling and thought what could happen after the rain finished… all the fun things he would be able to do!

Using our writing lesson, the children projected their thoughts to the future and thought of positive things while they wrote a letter to Barley telling him about the marvellous possibilities that wait for him once the rain is finished.

“Even though we have a storm happening now, at the end we will get the rainbow.”
