For the third year running Governing Council have been thrilled to be able to host the UPS Connect Governing Council Breakfast. Held on Wednesday 25 September, the Breakfast is a way for our school community to connect, share business details and network, while also having the opportunity to hear from a world-class speaker. It is also the primary fundraising event for the UPS Building Fund, with proceeds going towards our ambition for new learning facilities at UPS.
This year we were delighted to have track cyclist Stephanie Morton OAM, Commonwealth and Paralympic Games gold medalist join us and speak about her experiences and aspirations. She offered amazing insight into the life of a professional athlete while also sharing personal stories with humility and laughter. From the highs of the London Olympics to the unfinished facilities at Rio and the fascinating Japanese Keirin Circuit, her experiences in the sport had everyone thoroughly engaged.
As with most events at UPS, we have an amazing army of parents that contribute to making things happen. Our special thanks go to Mario Valenti and the NW Group, Mark Rodda and Andrew Bevan for donations of audiovisual set-up and auction items, Sophie Morrell and Richard Strever for their work in organising and promoting the event and of course the UPS leadership team. We are also grateful to Ella and Monique, two of our Year 7 house captains, who thanked Stephanie and presented her with a card they had made featuring personal messages of thanks from students who had researched Steph’s inspiring story.
A parting thought from Steph which many of us wanted to take home to our children, ‘In my view there’s no winning and losing, just winning and learning.’
We hope to see you at next year’s breakfast!
