Over the last term, junior primary classes have been further developing their fundamental movement skills through a variety of different activities, including circuits and modified games using the theme of ‘circus’. Students juggled by themselves and with partners, balanced on things and then had different types of equipment balanced on different parts of their body. They got to be the ringmaster and have people follow their instructions, and they explored different movements with and without equipment.
One of the highlights for children was the chance to create their own sideshow game that you might find at a fair or circus. The students used their imaginations and got to choose which equipment to use. There were three elements they needed to include in their sideshow: a rolling or throwing element, a target element and a balance element. It was fantastic to see the students use their creativity to design such unique games.
